Dietary Supplements aka Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements: are vitamins, minerals, herbs and other substances meant to improve your diet MSM |
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a chemical compound found in animals, plants and within the human body. It is relatively new as a dietary supplement but provides sulfur that is found naturally within the body and is an important part of joint health. It promotes healthy tissues such as muscle, tendons and ligaments. This is why MSM is considered to be effective for the treatment of conditions such as muscle pains and arthritis. MSM naturally decreases the pressure within the cells of the body. It removes toxins and fluids through the cell membrane. Additionally, it makes the body’s cell walls permeable, allowing nutrients to flow freely and allowing toxins to move out. MSM supplements may be taken orally or applied to the skin. MSM sulfur plays critical roles within the body’s organs and many systems. It is contained throughout the body, including in the nails, skin and hair. This is why many consider MSM as safe for the body as water. In fact, sulfur can be found in many foods such as lentils, soybeans, sunflower seeds, garlic and yogurt.

The recommended daily dose for adults for MSM is 2,000 to 6,000 mg three times daily. However, specific doses should be discussed with your healthcare provider. MSM is considered relatively safe for most individuals for short-term use (less than three months). Although rare, MSM has been known to cause diarrhea, bloating, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, headache, and worsening allergies. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use MSM. Those with kidney conditions or chronic kidney stones should avoid MSM. Like all supplements, MSM should be added to your daily healthcare regimen only after you consult your doctor. |
